Flowers on Fire

This painting demonstrates T immune cells (coloured in blue) surrounding a cancer cell. In cancer immunotherapy we attempt to boost our own immune system to fight cancer. The pieces in this painting can be re-arranged, inviting patients to change their perspective about their condition. The artwork tells a story about flexibility and strength found in both art and people facing tough times due to illness.

The painting was inspired by a microscopic image generated by Dr Prasad S. Adusumilli from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in the US.

Acrylic on canvas, total size 40 x 40 x 1.5 cm (16 × 16 × 0.6 in, approx.). Finished with a satin varnish for UV protection and long-term preservation.
