Among the Islands

This painting represents tumor cells (blue with green margins) and tumor-associated myeloid cells (other scattered small cells) in tumor microenvironment. Myeloid cells originate from hematopoietic stem cells in bone marrow, infiltrate into solid tumors through circulation, and are an obstacle for cancer immunotherapy. Inhibition of glutamine, a source of nitrogen, can decrease the generation of these cells and enhance response to immunotherapy. The original image is from Zheng Lab at Sun Yat-Sen University in China and was taken from the cover page of Cancer Immunology Research

Acrylic on canvas, 45 x 45 x 4 cm (18 × 18 × 1.5 in, approx.). Framed and finished with a satin varnish for UV protection and long-term preservation.
