Oxytocin: the Love Hormone

This painting visualizes the crystals of oxytocin, known to be the “Love Hormone”! This hormone is produced in the hypothalamus and released by the pituitary gland. Oxytocin facilitates childbirth and breast feeding and is produced when we fall in love! That is why it is called “the love hormone”. It is interesting to know that oxytocin is available in the form of a drug; for example, this can be used to help increase milk flow while breast-feeding. Music, exercise, and touch can boost oxytocin naturally! This painting was inspired by a microscopic image taken by Alfred Pasieka and available in Science Photo Library.

Acrylic on canvas, 40 x 120 x 4 cm (16 × 46 × 1.5 in, approx.). Framed and finished with a satin varnish for UV protection and long-term preservation.
